Appearance:

The Gold Laser Cory features a shimmering, metallic gold stripe running along its body from the head to the tail, contrasting beautifully with its overall olive-green to bronze body color. This striking gold line gives the fish its "laser" name. They have a rounded snout, barbels around the mouth, and a slightly flattened belly, which is typical of Corydoras species.

Size:

Adult Gold Laser Corys typically reach a size of about 2.5-3 inches (6-7.5 cm) in length, making them suitable for a variety of aquarium sizes.

Habitat and Origin:

Originating from the freshwater rivers and streams of South America, particularly in the Amazon Basin, Gold Laser Corys inhabit areas with soft, sandy substrates and plenty of plant cover. They are often found in slow-moving waters where they can forage for food along the bottom.

Diet:

Gold Laser Corys are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet. In captivity, they can be fed high-quality sinking pellets, wafers, and a variety of live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. They will also scavenge for leftover food, helping to keep the aquarium clean.

Behavior and Compatibility:

Known for their peaceful and social nature, Gold Laser Corys thrive in groups. It is recommended to keep them in schools of at least six individuals to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress. They are excellent tank mates for other small, non-aggressive fish, making them ideal for community aquariums. Their activity at the bottom of the tank helps to stir up the substrate, preventing the buildup of detritus.

Aquarium Requirements:

To create a comfortable environment for Gold Laser Corys, a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots such as driftwood, rocks, and caves is recommended. A sandy substrate is ideal to prevent damage to their sensitive barbels. The tank should be at least 20 gallons to accommodate a small school. Maintain a water temperature of 72-78°F (22-26°C) with a pH level of 6.0-7.5. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to keep the water clean and healthy.
